Taolagnaro, located in the extreme south-east of the island, was named Fort Dauphin after the fort of the same name built in 1643 by Pronis in honor of the future King Louis XIV.
The Portuguese Fort, "Tranovato", is the oldest building built by the Portuguese in Madagascar, who, in 1504, after surviving a shipwreck were protecting themselves from the threat of the local population.
The Pic Saint-Louis (529 m high), is a unique outlook that dominates the entire region and the city as well as the five bays of Fort Dauphin. Access to its summit offers a breathtaking panorama, that makes it possible to admire from the view from East to West: Sainte Luce, Lokaro Islands, the Evatra point, Anse Dauphine, Libanona point, the false Galions Bay, Cape Ranavalona and Lake Andriambe...

Fans of eco-tourism will love this reserve, rich in nature reserves, including the Private Natural Reserve of Berenty stretching over 240 km along the Mandrare River–a true "forest gallery". Similarly, its wildlife made up of lemurs, tortoises, chameleons, birds and butterflies, give an accurate idea of the richness of this site. A museum integrated into the reserve, the small private Nahampoana Reserve, rich in flora and fauna typical of the South of the island, numerous waterfalls and natural swimming pool ... These are the wonders that the discovery of this incredible destination nestled between sea and earth reserves...
Finally, a visit to the Andohahela National Park allows visitors to experience nature in the form of a wet evergreen to sub-humid forest.
