The Pangalanes channel is an aquatic mirror that is covered with elephant ear plants, travelled by silent boats, cargo barges, giant bamboo rafts, fished by fishermen in brackish water, and leads to forests and villages filled with secrets...
It boasts a unique ecosystem with its 600 km in length, consisting of very narrow branches as well as veritable lakes with lush vegetation. Navigation on the Pangalanes channel offers many opportunities to meet with authentic people who are always welcoming.
The channel is navigated in a pirogue or punt gliding gently over the channel, sometimes plunging through tunnels of lush greenery along the banks; the colourful atmosphere of the life of the ethnic tribes with very different rituals and ways of life can be felt here...br />
The best time to discover the Pangalanes channel is from March to May and from September to December. The East Coast circuits generally plan two or three nights in the Pangalanes before continuing on to Tamatave and Sainte Marie.
